Stair/Stringer Calculator Software

EASY AND SUPER FAST STAIR BUILDING CALCULATOR – FREE!!

Alright, for those of you out there who are looking for the easy way out, like me, here is the program you need for building your stairs. I wanted to make a program that I could easily use to build stairs without all the hassle of calculating the stuff by hand. I also didn’t want to pay a bunch of money for some of the other stuff out there (I know, I’m cheap that way) This program is very user friendly with only one dimension to enter. Hopefully you’ll find it handy as well. The following is my sales page for the product.

THIS program was written by me while building my house and wasting tons of time trying to calculate the stringer cuts that I needed to make. I have a set of stairs inside my house and also a beautiful set of stairs extending from my balcony in the back of the house. When you need to build some stairs you don’t always want to calculate the rise and run using Geometry formulas that you haven’t used since high school, that can take forever! Plus if you want a descent set of stairs built for you it’s going to cost you $100 per tread!! Just ask any builder or handyman what they’ll charge you for a set of stairs. I wrote this program for all of us “Do-It-Yourselfers” using Microsoft Excel and the program is INCREDIBLY EASY to use. All you have to input is the total height of where you want the stairs and the program does the rest!! This program uses preset dimensions to get the right rise and run for your stairs so that they will be *Building Code Compliant and are designed around the carpenter’s rules so they will be comfortable and ergonomically efficient. AND ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS PUT IN THE HEIGHT!! PLUS…..you get a printout with the dimensions and layout so you can take this strait to the jobsite and follow the instructions that you printed.

 * Checking your local code is always a good idea, it was written with the Florida Building code in mind but so far it has been code compliant everywhere it has been used.  If you ask for the metric version then definitely double check, I don’t know about Code issues overseas.

Super Easy and FAST to Use!

With this program you can take out all the guesswork and time spent calculating and start building those stairs. I have given this to friends with no building experience and they were able to use it to build the stairs they needed easily! Don’t waste time with other options when you may end up building stairs that aren’t to code! Why guess on how many steps you’ll want or what degree incline you’d like and if it will be safe and comfortable to use or even to code? All you need here is the height of the platform! You can choose from two different types of attachment methods for attaching the stringer to the platform. You’ll get pictures and descriptions that tell you exactly what the end product will look like when built. This program will tell you what size 2 X 12 you’ll need, how much room you’ll need in front of the deck to allow room for the stairs, exact dimensions of each step and the total stringer length and a printable sheet to bring with you while you layout your project. The printable sheet shows and tells you exactly how to layout out the stringer, how to use a framing square, and how to make the cuts so that you don’t get over-cuts. It doesn’t get any easier. This program will give you all the dimensions and calculate all of this for you in one easy step!

Even if you are going to have stairs built for you it’s a great tool so you can double check the contractor! Don’t pay the contractor until you’ve double checked his results to make sure they are to code. Trust me on this one, once you pay them and those stairs aren’t to code, you won’t see half of them again. The ones that would come back to fix the stairs would have just built them right the first time, so always double check!

You will need Microsoft excel to run this program; however you can download OPEN OFFICE for FREE. Just go to here:

  2. Great program, saved me alot of time in my estimates and made them more accurate. Thanks for doing the leg work.
The only problem that I found is using it on office 2007. It told me that I would have to allow macros and so I did, but it then said that they had not been made or cannot access or something like that. I just used your program on an older version of excell and it worked great.

  3. I’m currently working on my deck and the stairs are next. I am so glad I found this spreadsheet. It is going to make it alot easier. Thanks!
